Pet Loss

The loss of a pet can acutely remind us of the strong bond that forms between our pets and ourselves. Grieving the loss of a pet can be as intense (or sometimes more intense) than what we experience when a friend dies. For many of us, our pets become a part of our family and so when a pet dies, we lose a beloved member of our family. Our pets provide companionship, comfort, warmth, joy and so much more in our lives.  Our pets add to our health and well being. Losing a pet suddenly, tragically, or to a chronic illness triggers feelings of pain, loss and many other emotions.  For some, the grief will be transitory, for others it takes a long time to integrate and adjust to this significant loss.

There are resources to help cope with pet loss and our feelings of grief. We may always hold on to the cherished memories of our pets, however with support and resources for coping we can lessen the deep anguish that comes with a recent loss.

Our pets leave their paw prints forever on our hearts. We honor their memories by continuing to share their stories and by expanding our circle of love and care.
